Taharka Sankara, MSW, LCSW, LCADC, has a broad array of experience that intersect with multiple service delivery systems targeting various needs of youth and families. Cumulatively, he has over 15 years of experience providing stabilization, assessment, diagnostic, and treatment services to target groups. He holds a Masters of Social Work degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He possesses dual licenses in the State of New Jersey in the fields of Clinical Social Work and Alcohol and Drug Counseling. He has spent several years serving the incarcerated adult offender population, in various capacities (ie. counselor, supervisor, unit manager, and family program coordinator) to assess needs, provide treatment, facilitate conjoint family groups and recommend appropriate level of community release and re-entry services. While working with adolescents and families who have been impacted by trauma, substance abuse and mental illness in a residential treatment facility, he served in a clinical capacity to administer screening, diagnostic assessments, individual, group and family programming. As a clinical director and supervisor of an outpatient substance abuse treatment program he provided clinical supervision, and managed clinical practices, as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, from point of admission through transition to community-based after-care resources. In addition to clinical and supervisory experience, he has served as an adjunct professor at a local community college, in the Department of Sociology. He is the founder and current Managing Member of Counseling Support Services, LLC.
Counseling Support Services, LLC is a behavioral and mental health care organization, established in 2013 to provide therapeutic support services to children and families impacted by a variety of emotional, behavioral and mental health challenges. Our clinical practice integrates an evidenced based trauma-informed cognitive behavioral model, combined with a holistic health approach that proclaims behavior and mental health care as prerequisites for optimal health and well-being. We provide individual, group and family therapy for a wide range of clinical disorders, including substance abuse counseling. Our services are offered in a variety of settings including in-home, in-community and private practice. To meet the unique needs of each individual and family, all services are provided in a framework that is client-centered, family-focused and culturally responsive.
