Meet Taharka Sankara
AUTHOR | CONSULTANT | TRAINER | FACILITATOR
He has over 15 years of experience providing stabilization, assessment, diagnostic, and treatment services to target groups, impacted by trauma, substance abuse and mental illness. Serving in a clinical capacity, several years have been spent counseling a population of incarcerated adult males in preparation for community release. While working with adolescents and families in outpatient and residential treatment settings, he facilitated individual, group and family programming. In addition to clinical and supervisory experience, he has served as an adjunct sociology professor at a local community college, disseminating curriculum on Intercultural-Communications. Throughout the course of professional experience, he has delivered workshops, lectures, trainings, and presentations to schools, community-based organizations, and private groups.
As the founder and current Managing Member of Counseling Support Services, LLC he consults with other professionals in providing a wide array of services to parents and other responsible adults, to develop effective strategies that best support children and adolescents. He is author of “Caring for Children with Behavior and Mental Health Needs” and in the process of finalizing a forthcoming work on race-based traumatic stress.

Taharka Sankara, MSW, LCSW, LCADC, has a broad array of experience that intersect with multiple service delivery systems targeting various needs of youth and families. He holds a Master of Social Work degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. He is licensed in the State of New Jersey in the fields of Clinical Social Work and Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counseling. In addition, he is certified as an anger management treatment provider, and currently in process of completing a certification as a trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapist (TF-CBT).
